Patriot Support Programs at Cedar Hills Hospital-Portland Oregon

The Cedar Hills Hospital program follows our long tradition of providing outstanding care for the men and women who have bravely served in the United States Armed Forces.  Our program includes active duty, family members and veterans. The clinicians at our Portland hospital can treat:

Since 2009, Cedar Hills Hospital in Portland has had ongoing active partnerships with all branches of the U.S. military, the DOD/DHA and the VA system.

Specialized Military Services

Our multi-disciplinary approach is administered by a select team of behavioral health and substance abuse professionals focused on treating and reestablishing the well-being of service members.

  • Individual Therapy sessions are conducted daily by Military Unit therapists.
  • The Program Medical Director (Psychiatrist) is a highly experienced military treatment specialist who meets with every patient daily to manage their care.
  • The treatment is tailored, patient specific, and abides by DoD for best practices.

All national and regional Patriot Support Programs are TRICARE® certified and follow closely with the United States Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs guidelines.

  • Individualized discharge, support and aftercare planning (inpatient and outpatient)
  • Special visitation hours for family members, friends, and Command
  • Outcome measures for patient progress tracking (PCL-5, PHQ-9, Basis 32)

Patriot Support Treatment framework

  • Individual and group therapy (IP and OP)
  • Medication management
  • Evidence-based Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), specifically for combat-induced PTSD
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for mood disorders
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for co-occurring disorders and mood disorders
  • 12 Step Model available for substance abuse treatment
  • Specialized care that includes exposure to therapy outings, gym access, activity-oriented therapies, recreation groups, music groups, art therapy groups, yoga, tai chi, meditation and pet therapy.

Bill Snyder, MA, LPC

Chief Executive Officer

Bill Snyder serves as CEO of Cedar Hills Hospital, bringing over 20 years of leadership in behavioral health and substance use treatment. A licensed therapist with a master’s in clinical psychology, Bill has held roles ranging from frontline clinician to executive leader in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He is deeply committed to expanding access to quality mental health care through evidence-based practices, trauma-informed approaches, and collaborative team cultures.

Brian Esparza, MD

Psychiatrist

Dr. Brian Esparza attended Medical School and completed his residency at the University of Washington. He is board certified in psychiatry, addiction medicine, as a medical review officer and as a substance abuse professional. Dr. Esparza has 20 years of Inpatient experience and is dedicated to evidence-based dual diagnosis treatment.

Garrett Souder

Military Community Liaison

Garrett Souder has been serving the veteran community since 2016, dedicating his career to outreach, housing navigation, crisis intervention, and case management across the Portland and Vancouver metro region. A U.S. Army veteran himself, he brings both lived experience and professional expertise to his role as Veteran Community Liaison for the Patriot Support Program at Cedar Hills Hospital. Garrett has built strong partnerships with local VA teams, county VSOs, and local nonprofits to ensure veterans in crisis receive wrap around services. Garrett remains committed to strengthening veteran centered care and advancing the mission to serve those who have served us.
