Crisis Stabilization

Cedar Hills Crisis Stabilization

Our Crisis Stabilization Unit is a secure, separate inpatient area with 16 beds reserved for patients experiencing psychiatric distress. This program has been designed to treat patients who are suffering from a mental health crisis including symptoms such as psychosis, suicidal ideation and/or homicidal ideation, as well as patients who have gravely disabled functioning.

Crisis intervention and stabilization services are administered in a highly-monitored environment by specially trained nurses and psychiatrists. This is the highest level of care offered by Cedar Hills. Most patients are generally able to move from this unit to one of our longer-term treatment programs within one to five days once symptom stabilization is established. Once transferred, we continue to provide ongoing stabilization, attention and care.

Our crisis center provides:

  • A separate treatment environment
  • Psychiatric evaluation
  • Medication assessment, initiation & stabilization
  • Recreational therapy (for patients who can participate)
  • Education to help you manage your illness
  • Wellness education
  • An advocate dedicated to help you and your designated Lay Caregiver connect with resources in your community
