Comprehensive Prevention, Access to Care, and Treatment Act of 2020

This act allows eligible veterans to obtain immediate care for emergent suicidal crisis as a covered benefit. Cedar Hills Hospital is a facility that will accept veterans with emergent suicidal crisis. Suicidal veterans may walk into the facility or call 503-944-5000 to speak with our admissions team to schedule an intake.

The VA will pay for veterans who are in an acute suicidal crisis (including transportation costs) in the community for any enrolled veterans in the VA Care System and for non-enrolled eligible Veterans.

Any veteran is eligible for emergent suicidal care if the individual is in an acute suicidal crisis and is one of the following:

  • Veteran is a person who served in either active military, naval, air, space service or reserves, and who was discharged or released after two years of active service therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.
  •  A Veteran who is a former member of the Armed forces, including the reserve service members who served more than 100 days under a combat exclusion or in support of a contingency operation who was discharged or released  therefrom under a condition that is not honorable but not:
    • a dishonorable discharge or a discharge by court-martial; and
    • is not enrolled in the VA health care system; and
    • served in the Armed Forces for more than 100 cumulative days; and
    • was deployed in a theater of combat operations
  • A veteran while serving in the armed forces, was the victim of a physical assault
    of a sexual nature, a battery of a sexual nature, or sexual harassment regardless
    of discharge status.
